Get to know the two bee hives that have been living on the roof terrace of C/O Berlin since 2021 up close on a honey-sweet evening. Join beekeeper Gunnar on a search for the queen bee and find out why bees are so worth protecting.

In addition, Junior Curator Veronika Epple will give you a thematic introduction to the exhibition Bannkörbe by Aladin Borioli, winner of the C/O Berlin Talent Award 2023.

In his research-based project, Borioli (b. 1988) investigates the co-existence of humans and bees as well as alternative methods of beekeeping with a special focus on Bannkörbe – beehives made from organic materials including wood, straw, and cow manure. This unique form of beehive and craftsmanship was prevalent in northern Germany between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. These hives, each one of a kind, are characterized by their grotesque masks, which were intended to ward off the “evil eye” and honey thieves. Within the field of bee research, they reflect the belief in magic and thus provide an alternative model to the dominant concepts of “modern” beekeeping.

Afterwards, you can look forward to a delicious honey drink in our café.
All participants will receive a jar of Honey from the C/O Berlin bees as a souvenir.
