The cool facades of Berlin buildings, urbanites strolling around the Milan Cathedral in the pale winter sun, cavernous New York streetscapes, children at play in the narrow alleys of Istanbul—are these peaceful scenes really part of the new action thriller “The International” by Tom Tykwer? Are detectives on a high-stakes chase through these scenes to expose the criminal activities of a major world bank? The serene photographs of Lloyd Phillips do not retell the adrenaline-charged story behind the film, but offer a unique photographic tour of its original sites. They document the action that took place behind the camera, and thus provide relaxed insights into the process of making the film through the eyes of the producer.
