As a special highlight of the exhibition Tyler Mitchell . Wish This Was Real, the Berlin-based vocal ensemble A Song For You has created a site-specific performance that interacts with the artist's works and themes. Both Tyler Mitchell and the choir focus on themes such as self-representation, community, solidarity and utopias.
In their performance through the exhibition space, A Song For You explores, sometimes as a capella, sometimes with instrumental accompaniment, the juxtaposition of living out your dream in an atmosphere that places many odds against it. What If This Was Real? is an audiovisual illustration of the recreating of spaces that allow for the fostering of imagination, desire, and the lust to live in harmony with one’s own dream. The performance at C/O Berlin will be their first within an exhibition context.
Inspired by the energetic jam culture across the many faces of Jazz and Groove music, the vocal ensemble A Song For You and C/O Berlin invite you to an After Session at 20:00 on a warm and fun summer night with drinks in the C/O Berlin backyard. Enjoy the exhibitions Tyler Mitchell . Wish This Was Real and Studio Rex . Jean-Marie Donat Collection on a Saturday evening. The exhibitions remain open until 21:30.
When A Song For You announces a performance, it sells out in no time at all. The ensemble project initiated by Noah Slee and Dhanesh Jayaselan, which brings together a changing line-up of more than 50 artists from all over the world, has undoubtedly taken the Berlin music scene by storm. The collective defies categorization and operates in a sound world between neo soul, R&B and gospel. Their vision: to give underrepresented talents a collaborative platform and more visibility in Berlin and beyond. Each performance is unique and consists of a choreography and narration specially conceived for the location. The ensemble was awarded the 2023 Prize for the Promotion and Development of the Berlin Music Scene and has performed at the Volksbühne Berlin, X-Jazz! and MELT Festival, Kultursommerfestival, Popkulturfestival in 2023 alone, followed by a performance at HAU in April and Theater des Westens in September 2024. With their debut album Home, ASFY is a pioneer of a new wave of choral music.
