To accompany the exhibition Documentary in Flux, C/O Berlin Education invites budding photographers to a two-day workshop with talent award winner and photographer Iris Janke.

Based on her own photographs and archive material from her parents' and grandparents' families, who also work as photographers, Iris Janke uses photographic material as a basis for disassembling and reorganizing it in the form of clusters and collages. By linking different levels of time, photographic sequences, snapshots and staged images, the photographer develops visually open structures that reflect documentary narratives.

In addition to gaining an insight into Iris Janke's personal working methods, participants will be able to present their own photographic work and, after viewing their portfolios, start their practical work with newly acquired perspectives. As part of the workshop, curator Veronika Epple will give a guided tour of the exhibition Documentary in Flux.

Iris Janke studied visual communication in Berlin and fine arts in Stockholm. She also trained as a picture editor at the Ostkreuz School of Photography. She works as a freelance photographer for magazines and institutions and realizes her own projects with a special focus on analogue photography. Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions and photo festivals worldwide. In 2011 she was honored and exhibited as a talent at C/O Berlin. Since 2014 she has been working as a workshop leader in the education team at C/O Berlin and has realized several exhibitions and publications as part of her workshop leadership, especially in the Perspectives program.
