The staging of the naked self, the merging of picture space and real space in life-sized photograms, and the steady gaze that never lets the viewer out of the artist’s sight. In her photographic work, Sophie Thun explores and questions established concepts of society, sex, and gender, drawing on the long tradition of female self-representation in art history and challenging the (assigned) role of female artists. In conversation with our curator Kathrin Schönegg, the artist will discuss her works currently on view at C/O Berlin, how she employs her body visually, how she works as a photographer in the darkroom, and how her original artistic medium—painting—influences her work.
