On the occasion of the exhibitions A World in Common and Silvia Rosi . Protektorat, C/O Berlin and the Berliner Landeszentrale für politische Bildung are organizing a joint discussion. The aim is to break away from Western-influenced representations when dealing with Africa's history(ies) and to look at alternative historical narratives, i.e. counter-narratives by artists from Africa or with a biographical connection to Africa.

Specifically, we want to look at the representation of Africa from the perspective of Black Berliners and actors of African descent. To what extent can art also serve as a means of resistance against (post)colonial narratives? How can African perspectives be made more visible and strengthened? What role do artistic forms of expression play in questioning and redefining stereotypical images and racist narratives?

Participants in the event will receive a discounted ticket (6 euros) for the exhibitions A World in Common . Contemporary African Photography and Silvia Rosi . Protektorat . C/O Berlin Talent Award 2024
