What makes a good photograph and how can we train our photographic vision? In this workshop, participants will learn how to refine their photographic composition and create dynamic images. Through photographic exercises in urban environments, we will develop a heightened sensitivity to our surroundings and learn to creatively incorporate lines, shadows, colors and people into the composition of the image. Together we will analyze when an image composition works, explore visual composition tools, and discuss efficient editing. For inspiration, works by historical and contemporary photographers will also be analyzed in the group.

Whether Single-lens reflex camera, mirrorless or smartphone, participants will be able to work with a variety of cameras of their choice and practice different techniques and aesthetic features.

The workshop will include an exhibition visit to the retrospective Mary Ellen Mark . Encounters at C/O Berlin.
